A speed skater "panczenista", Olympian, multiple national champion. He appeared at the Olympic Games in Lillehammer in 1994, Nagano in 1998, Salt Lake City in 2002, and Turin in 2006. He is a 40-time Polish Champion on distances of 1,000 m, 1,500 m, 3,000 m, 5,000 m, 10,000 m, and in skating multispeed, and holds the Polish record on distances of 3,000 m, 5,000 m, 10,000 m, and in skating multispeed. Paweł Zygmunt won a silver medal at the European Championships in Erfurt in 2002 over the distance of 10 000 m, he is also a bronze medalist of the World Championships 2002 in Heerenveen over the distance of 10 000 m and European Championships 2003 over 5000 m.
In 2006 he ended his professional career. He is a member of the Technical Commission of the International Skating Union. He is also active in Polish Olympic Committee.
Paweł Zygmunt and his wife are the organizers of the "Become an Olympian" campaign, in which they visit school children and familiarize them with the meaning of the Olympic idea and the history of the games. Paweł Zygmunt especially stresses the fact that the Olympic slogan - Kalos Kagathos - calls for taking care of both body and mind. You cannot develop only your body, forgetting about your 'psyche', nor vice versa.
Paweł Zygmunt also emphasizes the patriotic dimension of sport. - He always liked performing under the white and red flag and, among other things, the chance to represent the country pushed him in the direction of sport.
Paweł Zygmunt's hobby is opera singing.
